Anne Glass, Ilse Van Garderen, Lynne Bechervaise

The concept "Vessel" has the inherent capacity to convey multiple layered narratives.

Three Melbourne artists have chosen to explore this theme on a personal level.

For LYNNE BECHERVAISEthis has meant developing her sculptured ceramic boats,

peopled with figures, birds, fish and animals, informed by her journeys and experiences with

indigenous  people, particularly the Inuit. These vessels are representative of rites of passage

ILSE VAN GARDERENhas taken as her point of departure a small piece of

cracked and irregular "Kitchen Ming" creating a dialogue between herself

and this delicate, old Chinese bowl. She often draws over failed drypoint

prints reground with pigment and gesso, on occasion including text and nests

ANNIE GLASS has embraced the "Vessel of Life" itself, siphoning off small "snapshots" and

whimsically enmeshing them in yards of wire.
